Trusting the Soul’s Guidance
Leaving the Familiar to Return to Our Sacred Roots
I’m often asked, “Why did you leave?”
The answer isn’t always easy to articulate. It shifts slightly depending on where I am in the moment.
The truth is — it was a very difficult decision. One that weighed on me for many nights.
It wasn’t simply the excitement of a new adventure. We looked at the bigger picture over and over again. The hardest part was knowing we would be putting miles between ourselves and our children, our family, and our friends.
That still lives in me at times.
We were also choosing to leave behind everything familiar — the comfort of what we knew, what we had built, and what we could predict. We had poured so much of ourselves into our home and land.
And yet… something deeper kept calling.
A quiet but persistent guidance to trust something different. Something bigger. Something still unfolding.
So what brought the idea of moving?
It’s actually easier to say what it wasn’t.
It wasn’t about leaving people we love. It wasn’t about rejecting the life we had built.
It was a soul calling. A desire to feel free.
Free from the heaviness of political energy. Free from systems that no longer aligned with our values. Free from the constant push of consumerism, competition, and conformity. Free from permits, policies, and structures that felt disconnected from the way we wanted to live.
At its core, it was a longing to live differently.
To be on land we could steward with care and intention. To live in a way that felt harmonious, rather than like a constant uphill battle.
In Canada, that harmony began to feel harder and harder to access. What once felt aligned slowly began to feel heavy.
And we knew we needed to listen.
A Vision Began to Form
We began to see a vision — not fully formed, but clear enough to follow.
A place where we could live in connection with all beings — human, animal, plant, and water.
A place where the land still felt alive.
Where community was rooted in something deeper.
Where there was a remembering — of who we are, where we come from, and our relationship with this Earth.
A remembering of reciprocity.
We also knew that making this shift, at nearly 50, would not be easy.
But if we were going to take the leap… this was the time.
Our children are now incredible, capable adults, each living and creating their own stories.
And it was time for us to continue writing ours.
Because like any story, there comes a moment when a new chapter begins.
And this is ours.

Human Nature Sanctuary — Returning to Sacred Roots
So here we are — building, creating, and stepping into something new.
Not just a place, but a way of living.
A vision that has been slowly taking form… and now feels ready to be named.
Human Nature Sanctuary — Returning to Sacred Roots.
A space for reconnection. For remembering. For living in deeper relationship with the land, with each other, and with ourselves.
As we continue to grow here, our intention is to open this space to others — to those who feel curious, called, or even uncertain.
To offer an opportunity to step onto the land…To experience a different rhythm of life…To spend time with the trees, the waters, the animals, and the stillness that exists when we allow it.
We know that for some, this way of living may feel unfamiliar — even a little uncomfortable at first.
And that’s okay.
Our hope is to create a space that feels safe enough to explore that edge. A space where you can slow down, reconnect, and experience what it means to simply be — without pressure and without expectation.
We are also open to something deeper unfolding here — community.
Not something forced, but something that grows naturally through shared experience, presence, and a desire to live in greater harmony with all beings.
We don’t yet know exactly how this story will unfold.
But we are here for it.
And if something in you feels curious… you are welcome to follow along — or, when the time feels right, come and experience it for yourself.
If you feel called, we invite you to reach out and connect.
